Food Resolutions To Kickstart The New Year

Almost a week into the new year, most people are still clinging on to the hope of fulfilling their resolutions, something most of us have been trying to do for a few years now. At the beginning of each year, new resolutions are made only to be broken within the first month and an oath taken to begin and fulfill next year.

While healthy diet resolutions often make it to our list and more often than not, get left behind, there are a few food resolutions that we should try and stick to this New Year.

Stay Hydrated
One of the simplest resolutions we can begin with, is to stay hydrated. Most of us often fail to realise the importance of drinking enough water. Make sure to have a glass of water first thing when you wake up and last thing before bed, in addition to sipping it throughout the day. You can add berries, lemon or cucumber to your bottle of water. This helps in increasing your metabolism and keeps you healthy and hydrated.

Balanced Meals
Just like water is important for a healthy body, so are balanced meals. Try to have wholesome meals that energise you and keep you full for longer. Make sure every meal has a little bit of everything, (Yes, even carbs) as your body needs different nutrients to function well.

No Fad Diets
Just like it is important to have balanced meals, it is also important to stay away from fad diets this year. Extreme diets can cause more harm than good and often have some side effects which is not the negativity you need in your life this year. Shortcuts to anything are not worth the health risk you might be putting yourself in.

Fuel Your Mind and Body
This year, work towards fueling both, your mind and body instead of just focusing on physical fitness. Have foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals that give you proper nutrition and are required for your brain and body to function properly. Nuts, seeds and fruits are a great addition for this.

Variety
Make it a point to include more variety in your food. We all have foods that we cringe at the sight of, but learn to expand your taste bud horizons and enjoy foods that are healthy for you. Green veggies are a great way to get some much needed nutrition in your diet, make sure to eat them like your life depends on it.

Reduce Wastage
Try to reduce wastage of food this year. A lot of food gets thrown out every year, much of which can be used. Things like vegetable stems or skins have a lot of goodness in them and can be used in many ways instead of ending up in the bin.

Positivity
One last food resolution for the new year should be to prepare food with good energy. How you feel internally reflects in the food you make, so if you’re happy and positive while cooking, you’re food will have a positive impact on your mind and body.
